![]() As Payne writes, “We know that no one is hopelessly predetermined to either be fat, muscular, or thin. The most important thing, however, is not to obsess over one’s body type as some sort of marker of the sort of person you are or will become. Endomorphs, for example, should build more aerobic exercises into their routines if they’re looking to lose weight ectomorphs, on the other hand, should focus on strength training. He outlines a variety of approaches to take depending on one’s current body type and the future body type they’re perhaps trying to attain. You might know somebody that can just look at a weight and seem to get bigger and stronger: that person is a mesomorph. Mesomorphs are predisposed to build muscle but not store fat. “Instead, we are all constantly in flux and fall uniquely on a spectrum somewhere between all three.”Īs Payne notes, one pound per month is the norm for healthy muscle gain, while one pound per week is the norm for healthy fat loss. They have medium bones, solid torso, low fat levels, wide shoulders with a narrow waist. “No one exists within purely one somatotype,” he writes for the National Academy of Sports Medicine. The first thing, according to certified personal trainer Andrew Payne, is to understand that fitness behavior and physiology determines a person’s body type-not that a set-in-stone body type creates a person’s personality or gives them an immutable set of personality traits. But the history of somatotypes, and their legacy (and usefulness) today, is not so straightforward as it might appear. How someone is built typically informs what someone should eat and the exercises someone might do in order to achieve a particular physical end. (Think of football linemen.) Mesomorphs are athletic and muscular, capable of gaining weight or losing weight easily thanks to their efficient metabolisms.īody types are often discussed among bodybuilders, nutritionists, and personal trainers. Endomorphs were soft, round, pudgy, and overweight. According to Sheldon’s definitions: Ectomorphs were thin, narrow, delicate, fragile, linear, and poorly muscled. Endomorphs are rounded, with lots of muscle and body fat, a stockier structure, and a slower metabolism. But his three main body type classifications (endomorph, mesomorph, and ectomorph) live on, though they’ve evolvedfor the better. If someone has some ENDO characteristics though - fat loss will. Taken together, they represent three generalized body types, or somatotypes. If someone is a mix of MESO and ECTO - fat loss might be pretty quick in response to exercise. A relative of mine told me that no matter what I did, it would probably be hard for me to do because I am, in his words, a “hard gainer.” In other words, I’m an ectomorph: lanky and lean, with a high metabolism, little body fat, and not a lot of muscle.Įctomorph is a common term at the gym, along with mesomorph and endomorph. Marina Skobliakova/iStock Without judgment, look into the mirror. Am willing to share an Export of the form to anyone who wants to tinker with it themselves.Three years ago, I took it upon myself to radically change my diet-and, in turn, to see if I could make any muscular gains. Would like to hear some input from anyone about this. But I cannot get the blended Results to show correctly for either of the Two variants or their respective Male/Female Selection. I’m not sure if I’m using the AND/OR parameters correctly or what. Ecto-Meso answer for question #1 could be C or B. Using the Conditional Logic to show the appropriate Result, means I select the correct answer combinations. (This isn’t even counting the Email Conditional Logic I had to set up for these blended variants). Stationary lunge with lateral raise (right leg in front): 50 seconds. ![]() Try to do three repetitions of the whole routine. This is making me create FOUR additional answers (Results) dependent on the two blended variants and Male/Female selection. Keep the number of repetitions high and the amount of rest between sets minimal. ![]() NOW where everything blows up in my face is the client wants TWO blended body type answers ( Results) dependent upon whether the user selected Endo-Meso or Ecto-Meso on the questions. If you have this body type, you tend to have more body fat, more muscle, and gain weight easily. Also, the emails I set up using Conditional Logic to send the user their results upon request. This body type is opposite that of ectomorphs. ![]() This seems to function well on it’s own plus the Conditional Logic used to Show/Hide the Male/Female Question #6. Using Multi-Steps, I’ve created all the questions plus the SIX possible body type answers ( Results) dependent upon whether Male or Female was selected. Only on question 6 for Mesomorph body types does the answer differ dependent on whether you selected Male or Female at the beginning. There are 7 questions plus a Male/Female question at the beginning. A client wanted a Body Type quiz created. ![]()
